A mining engineer with a passion for inclusion and diversity (I&D) has been appointed general manager of Rio Tinto's Gove bauxite operations in north-east Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

Linda Murry commenced the role earlier this month after a decade building her career at Rio Tinto's Weipa bauxite operations in far north Queensland. Most recently she held the position of operations manager for the East Weipa mine.

With a background in mine planning, operations and logistics, Linda is embracing the challenge to drive productivity improvements for Gove operations.

Linda said 'I've had such a warm welcome by the community here at Gove. I'm really looking forward to making a difference at the site but also getting involved in community-based activities.

'I'm passionate about improving local Indigenous participation at the mine and supporting initiatives to build a sustainable future for the region.'

Linda's appreciation for I&D was fostered in previous roles in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and sugar industries where she worked with people from all over the world.

'These roles were so empowering because they taught me to value the differences of others and to understand that everyone has a different story.

'My proudest achievement at Weipa was launching the I&D group for the site. The group was great source of support for employees and I aim to replicate that success here at Gove,' Linda said.

In her spare time, Linda is looking forward to finding new camping spots and exploring the natural beauty of Arnhem Land with her family.

Linda succeeds Ben Devries who has returned to Brisbane after accepting a new role as general manager, Growth & Engineering for Rio Tinto's aluminium product group.
