Opened in 2016, the Grupo Dragon plant in Nayarit is the first geothermal power plant in Mexico to be operated by a private company. The plant plays a key role in energy distribution in the surrounding area, providing clean renewable energy from a geothermal source.

Designed and supplied by Rotork Mexico, the IQT intelligent actuator failsafe package operates a butterfly valve on a steam line. The provision of a battery back-up power supply ensures that the actuator is able to close the valve even in the event of mains power loss, providing reliable and constant protection of the turbine.

In addition to reliable performance, the use of IQ actuators for this application and in other areas of the plant also provides the operator with the asset management benefits inherent in Rotork intelligent actuation technology, enabling predictive maintenance and supporting maximum plant utilisation.
