NANJING INTERNATIONAL WATER HUB CELEBRATES TOPPING OUT CEREMONY
  • The hub will be dedicated to water R&D and the commercialisation of new water technologies
  • Tenants will have the opportunity to test new solutions under actual industrial conditions
Nanjing, August 17, 2017 - Sembcorp Industries celebrated the topping out of Nanjing International Water Hub, its latest technology and business centre in China. Vice Secretary of the Communist Party of China Nanjing Jianye Committee and Mayor of the Nanjing Jianye District Government, Min Yifeng, and Singapore's Deputy Consul-General in Shanghai, Philip Ong, joined in the ceremony marking the completion of superstructure concrete works for the water hub. The development remains on track for completion in 2018.

When completed, the Nanjing International Water Hub will be equipped with flexible laboratory space designed for water-based clinical testing. Sembcorp will also grant selected tenants of the water hub access to its water facilities across China as test beds for their technologies. This supports the commercialisation of R&D projects from the pilot-testing stage through to market readiness. As a global water player with a rich history of being technology and innovation driven, Sembcorp hopes to support the long-term growth of the water sector through these efforts.

As a business centre, the Nanjing International Water Hub is envisioned to be a highly collaborative workspace for research scientists, technologists and academics to conduct knowledge-driven exchanges and form partnerships. The water hub will offer a 400-seat auditorium, meeting rooms and exhibition space to showcase products or launch next-generation technology solutions.

To date, the Nanjing International Water Hub has secured eight cooperation agreements, including those with leading research centres and government agencies within the global water industry.

"The Nanjing International Water Hub aims to provide a conducive home for the water technology cluster to grow here in Nanjing. With its well-equipped laboratory facilities, networking platforms, and the unique opportunity for tenants to trial new solutions under actual industrial conditions, this

new water hub aims to accelerate the introduction of new advanced water solutions in the Chinese market. This would then provide an ideal springboard for these new solutions to be adopted in other rapidly developing markets internationally," said Tan Cheng Guan, Executive Vice President and Head of Group Business Development and Commercial at Sembcorp Industries.

"The Nanjing International Water Hub will be the newest and largest technology and business centre to be completed at the Sino-Singapore Nanjing Eco High-tech Island in the coming year. The water hub's vision fits the island's ecological theme, and also complements Nanjing's standing as an important centre for scientific research and high-tech services. Through this project, Sembcorp is pleased to help bring value-added industry to Nanjing and contribute to the economic development of this vibrant city," said Kelvin Teo, Chief Executive Officer of Sembcorp Development.

Nanjing International Water Hub development

Designed by award-winning international architecture and design firm Aedas, Nanjing International Water Hub is located on Sino-Singapore Nanjing Eco High-tech Island, and overlooks Nanjing City's new Hexi central business district.

The development, with over 34,000 square metres of gross floor area, incorporates Grade A office space, commercial space, flexible laboratory space, a 400-seat capacity auditorium, an open-plan exhibition area, fully-equipped meeting rooms, a roof-top garden and panoramic views of the lush landscape of Sino-Singapore Nanjing Eco High-tech Island.

Advanced technology has also been applied in the design of the development itself. Environmental modeling was applied from an early design stage, taking into account an analysis of the surrounding climate and solar heat gain, as well as a study of surrounding wind flow. This helps ensure the building does not trap heat in the summer and is not too cold in the winter. The building's orientation and landscape have also been designed to cut the flow of strong winds, promoting the pedestrianisation of open areas. Furthermore, the development will also have special features for greater energy and water savings, such as solar hot water, photovoltaic arrays, sustainable drainage system and rainwater harvesting.

With these green features, the project is targeted to achieve gold certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, as well as a China Green Building 2-star rating.
