Sembcorp Hosts China's Minister For Water Resources at Its Operations on Jurong Island, Singapore

SINGAPORE, June 1, 2014 - China's Minister for Water Resources, Chen Lei, visited Sembcorp's facilities on Jurong Island today while in Singapore for the Singapore International Water Week. During the visit, Minister Chen was given an overview of Sembcorp's industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities on Jurong Island, where the company has served industrial companies' specialised water and wastewater treatment needs for over 15 years.

These facilities include industrial wastewater treatment plants employing advanced processes and technologies to treat multiple streams of high concentration and high salinity industrial wastewater. They also include facilities which reclaim water from the treated effluent and use this reclaimed water to produce various industrial waters for supply back to Sembcorp's customers. The unique "total water solutions" model applied in Sembcorp's facilities - where industrial wastewater treatment, water reclamation and water supply are integrated - is more environmentally friendly, as it promotes water reuse and helps to conserve precious water resources.

Minister Chen's visit comes at a timely juncture, with Sembcorp increasingly working with companies and authorities in China to introduce advanced water management solutions that meet the growing needs of industries there and support the country's sustainable development. As a world leader in industrial water and wastewater management, Sembcorp currently serves the water and wastewater needs of companies in 11 leading industrial sites in China, in addition to being a trusted provider of essential energy and urban development solutions in the country.

Sembcorp has applied a total water solutions model, similar to what it has on Jurong Island, to its water plants in the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Port Zone in China's Jiangsu province, as well as in the Wangqiao Industrial Park in Changzhi city, Shanxi province. Both the Zhangjiagang and Changzhi facilities have received high-level recognition, with the governments of China and Singapore designating them as joint showcases for integrated water management. Earlier in March, Sembcorp was also named "Leader in Wastewater Treatment for Chemical Industrial Parks" by ChinaWaterNet, China's most influential trade media for the water sector, at its prestigious China Water Industry Annual Awards 2013.
