Aiming to Establish Stable Production Supply to Handle Indonesia's Soaring Demand for Consumer Electronics

Sharp's new plant in Karawang, Indonesia

Sharp Corporation announces that it has begun operations this month at a newly constructed plant in Karawang, Indonesia. The Karawang Plant specializes in the manufacture of large home appliances, with current production of washing machines to be complemented by production of refrigerators starting in October.

The increasing demand for consumer electronics in Indonesia is expected to continue on the back of steady growth in the country's rate of domestic consumption. With the Karawang Plant now operating, Sharp intends to double its production of refrigerators for the Indonesian market and increase washing machine production by 2.5 times.

The medium-term management plan announced by Sharp in May this year identified as a key management policy the expansion of ASEAN-centered overseas operations. The commencement of operations at the Karawang Plant is expected to contribute to an acceleration of Sharp's business expansion in the ASEAN region.
