Sales Launch of Hong Kong's Overseas Travel Insurance for Visitors to Japan Exclusively via Internet

Sompo Holdings, Inc. (Kengo Sakurada, Group CEO and President) announced today that its Group company Sompo Insurance (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. ("SOMPOHK") startssales of overseas travel insurance for residents of Hong Kong who will visit Japan exclusively via the Internet from July 1, 2017.

  1. Background

    Foreign travelers visiting Japan have been increasing year by year. In 2016, the number of travelers reached 24.03 million.

    Of these, visitors from Hong Kong made up the fourth largest group, following China, South Korea, and Taiwan, reaching a cumulative total of 1.83 million in 2016. The number is expected to continue growing.

    SOMPOHK has teamed up with Emergency Assistance Japan Co., Ltd., the first medical travel assistance intermediary accredited by Medical Excellence JAPAN, in order to help overseas travelers visiting Japan overcome difficulties due to language and cultural differences and to ensure so that they can receive medical care smoothly if they sustain injury or illness while staying in Japan. Our insurance will provide assistance necessary for hospitalization and visit to clinic and will arrange small cash disbursements if an insured person's cash is stolen.

    In addition to services to assist with incidents, the insurance will also offer discount services on vehicle rental, wi-fi rental, shopping, and other activities. These comprehensive services are provided to enable overseas travelers visiting Japan to enjoy greater peace of mind, convenience, and fun during their trip.

  2. Product overview

    1. Policyholders: Travelers visiting Japan (individual)

    2. Coverage content: The insurance will cover medical costs in the event that the insured party requires treatment at a hospital due to becoming ill or injured while traveling in Japan. The policy also provides coverage for loss of belongings, flight delays, personal liability, and so forth.

    3. Service content: Hospital arrangement, cashless settlement, medical interpreter services, and other related services in the event that the policyholder becomes ill or

      injured and cash disbursement services in the event that the policyholder's cash is stolen are provided for free. In addition, partner companies will provide discount coupons for vehicle rental, wi-fi rental, shopping, and other activities.

    4. Sample insurance premium: 90 Hong Kong dollars (approximately 1,282 yen*) for a seven-day travel insurance policy.
