CMA ENERGY MARKET INVESTIGATION - PUBLICATION OF FINAL REPORT

SSE plc notes today's publication by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) of the Final Report in the GB energy market investigation and will continue to assess the detail as it emerges. The investigation started in June 2014 and has taken an in-depth look right across the markets for supply and acquisition of energy in Great Britain.

Since a market investigation was first proposed in March 2014, SSE has argued that energy markets in Great Britain are generally well-functioning and competitive; while recognising the benefits of reforms that are in the interests of customers.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, SSE's Chief Executive, said:
'After two years of thorough scrutiny of what is an ever-changing and dynamic GB energy market, the end product is a substantial package of reforms that will help deliver meaningful improvements for customers.

'It is a tough set of measures but we recognise where it will help drive the energy market forward to better deliver for customers. We've come a long way since the investigation commenced in 2014 and we will continue to engage constructively as we undertake the substantial implementation work in the months ahead.

'We hope to see other companies doing the same so the industry can move on and put its energy into delivering for customers.'
