Stantec Architecture has captured a gold award for Best Designed Project at the P3 Awards for the Forensic Services and Coroner's Complex facility in Toronto. Stantec Architecture, in association with MWL Architects, served as the Proponent Design Architects and Architects of Record on the project. WZMH Architects/SmithGroupJJR served as Planning, Design and Compliance Architects.

The P3 Awards recognize outstanding achievements in public-private partnerships across the Americas. The award was presented October 8 at the P3 Awards at the Conrad Hotel in New York City.

The Forensic Services and Coroner's Complex (FSCC) is one of the largest of its kind in the world, housing a consolidated forensic laboratory, medicolegal autopsy services and coroner's courts. The building is the first redevelopment project on an underdeveloped provincially owned land parcel, which will also include a new health care facility.

Stantec Vice President and Project Principal Michael Moxam, and Stantec Principal Tom Kyle, accepted the award on behalf of Stantec Architecture.

'Good design is good business, and the recognition from the P3 Awards judges reinforces that this project was thoughtfully designed,' says Moxam. 'In my mind the project is a success in two ways. First, it acts as an urban catalyst for this emerging north Toronto precinct; it connects the community context and residents. Second, by consolidating the Forensic and Coroner's program into a single building, the project encourages a collaborative, casual atmosphere between researchers that just wasn't possible in the previous facilities. It's a really encouraging place.'

This marks the second P3 Award Stantec Architecture has received. In 2014, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Phase 1B Redevelopment was awarded silver for Best Designed Project.

The FSCC also recently won the 2014 American Institute of Architects Justice Facility Review Award of Merit.
