The Cora Group's innovative evolv1 building in Waterloo, ON, designed and engineered by Stantec, has won the first-ever Zero Carbon award from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).

Awarded to the team responsible for a building that demonstrates climate leadership through optimal building performance and innovative carbon reduction strategies, evolv1 was recognized at the recent CaGBC Leadership Awards Dinner and Gala in Toronto.

The evolv1 vision is a collaboration between property owner The Cora Group, Stantec, Sustainable Waterloo Region, The David Johnston Research & Technology Park, and anchor tenant E&Y. The first of its kind in Canada, this 100,000-square foot, multi-tenant office building also recently became the country's first building to receive Zero Carbon - Design certification from the CaGBC. In addition to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, evolv1 is also Canada's first commercially-driven, net-positive building - which means it produces more energy than it consumes.

'We'd like to congratulate The Cora Group on this award,' says Stantec's Richard Williams, Architect and Principal, who was involved with the project from the start. 'Evolv1 expands the definition of sustainability, supports human health and wellness, and advances the business case and economic model for sustainable design in a multi-tenant building.'

'Our evolv1 project team was united by a common vision - to create something on a scale of complexity that hasn't been done before,' says Adrian Conrad, COO of The Cora Group. 'I am exceedingly proud of our project team and honoured by the recognition we've received from CaGBC.'
