ISP to start BOF converter in this month

New Delhi: Chairman, SAIL, Mr. C.S. Verma visited IISCO Steel Plant (ISP), Burnpur today. His visit was aimed at galvanizing the projects team to expedite the modernization and expansion work. During this visit, he reviewed the Modernization and Expansion work of ISP, where the 1st BOF converter is expected to start by end of this month and the 4060 cu.m. Blast Furnace by the end of the next month.. Interacting with the projects team on the occasion Mr. Verma underscored the need for faster operationalization of the various projects. Advising the collective he said, "I would want to see commissioning of units at ISP happen at a much faster pace. ISP collective must redouble its efforts to achieve its post modernization target of producing 2.9 Million tonnes of Hot Metal."

Chairman, SAIL, accompanied by Director Technical, Mr. S.S. Mohanty, Director Projects and Business Planning, Mr. T.S. Suresh and Executive Director In charge, ISP, Mr. I.C. Sahu, visited the Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF), Continuous Casting Plant (CCP), Oxygen Plant and Blast Furnace - 5 and reviewed the progress of work at the site.

It is noteworthy that ISP is undergoing a massive modernization and expansion program at a cost of around Rs. 17,000 crores which is being set up within a compact area of 953 acres. Being the single largest investment in the state, it is poised to change the face of industrial economy of Bengal. Other major facilities already completed include Raw Material Handling Systems, a seven meter tall Coke Oven Battery along with environment friendly dry quenching system, Sinter Plant and Wire Rod mill.
