In 2014, SCA and WSSCC (Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council) entered into an innovative partnership that aims to break the silence surrounding menstruation that jeopardizes the health of millions of women worldwide. This was also the topic of Monday's seminar.

An audience consisting of about 60 people representing , UN bodies, policy makers and industry, was welcomed by Daniel Pettersson, First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the UN. Next speaker was Chris Williams, Executive Director of WSSCC. He explained how partnerships between the private sector, the UN and governments will play an essential part of the solution to achieve the UN Goals that are under development, replacing the millennium goals which end in 2015.

"We must break the taboos surrounding menstruation, improve access to sanitation and explain how this will increase girls' education and improve their health," he said. Kersti Strandqvist, SVP Group Sustainability SCA also addressed the UN Goals as a key driver.

"The goals are extremely challenging and we will not achieve them unless we do things differently. The private sector, governments and must work together if we are to be successful.

"SCA and WSSCC's partnership extends initially over SCA's participation in the Volvo Ocean Race and Joséphine Edwall-Björklund, SVP Group Communications, explained how sailing is associated with breaking taboos.

"One of SCA's sustainability ambitions is about strengthening women's role in society. This is what we do with our all-female Team SCA, providing women access to an arena normally reserved for men.
