Tata Power, India's largest integrated power pany, has always been at the forefront of driving various sustainability initiatives in and around its areas of operation. One of the key activities undertaken by the Company is driving initiatives aimed at conserving the environment and building awareness to facilitate a greener tomorrow. In line with this philosophy, and in association with Haldia Municipality, Tata Power's Haldia plant organised a unique "Green Haldia Clean Haldia" initiative to increase the green belt coverage in its surrounding areas. The drive, which was rolled out on the occasion of Tata Volunteering Week-II celebration, saw the employees enthusiastically plant various trees in the Township area. Trees play a vital role in rural and urban populations, and are crucial for biodiversity conservation. The objective of this initiative was to encourage environment conservation, and engage employees in a healthy exercise that makes them learn about the environment. More than 500 fruit and flower bearing trees were planted, and fences were built around each tree to ensure maximum protection. The programme witnessed an overwhelming response with all the employees, along with their families, actively participating in the plantation drive. Speaking about this initiative, Mr. Abhijit Ain Das, Chief, Haldia Station, said, "We at Tata Power always take care of our surrounding environment. Throughout the year, our sustainability teams take numerous initiatives, like drives and plantation activities, to protect and -ensure lush greenery around. 'Green Haldia, Clean Haldia' is one such green initiative, the benefits of which would have a long- term effect on the mon people. It is a great learning for all of us on how each one of us can contribute to make our society greener and healthier" The initiative was inaugurated by Mr. Abhijit Ain Das, Chief, Haldia Station, and the event was also graced by the Local Municipal Ward Councillor.
