Taylor Wimpey : Manchester inspired to tackle loneliness in Golborne

Our Manchester team has pledged £500 towards the launch of a local community café committed to combating loneliness, in Golborne. Our donation is a quarter of the £2,000 target needed to crowd fund the new café.

The café will be run by Connecting Together, a local service that offers care and recreation facilities, and aims to unite every generation.

More than two million people in England over the age of 75 live alone and more than a million older people say they go for over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour or family member.

Connecting Together, with the help of Taylor Wimpey and the local community, wants to change this.

Close to the region's Rothwells Farm development in Golborne, Connecting Together provides support to local people who have varying levels of disability, mental health and complex needs.

Catherine Sudworth, Connecting Together, commented: 'We're very thankful to Taylor Wimpey for this generous and helpful donation, which brings us a big step closer in reaching our £2,000 target!

'Isolation can impact on mental health and is devastating for people who feel segregated from the town they live in. The café will promote the importance of building friendships within the community and we cannot wait to get started. The café will also provide work experience for youngsters with disabilities.'
