termotek GmbH, a company of the technotrans AG group, will present several innovations in the field of laser cooling for small to medium performance categories at the LASER World of PHOTONICS in Munich. The presentation at the trade fail will focus on three key topics: use of the natural refrigerant isobutane (R600a), increase of the cooling power density under limited spatial conditions and product solutions for vibration-sensitive applications. Among other things, the European premiere of the new, high-performance 19' rack-mount cooler awaits visitors at the joint stand of technotrans and KLH Kältetechnik GmbH. For the first time ever, this new cooler can generate one kilowatt of cooling power on the basis of 48 V and a device height of five rack units (RU). termotek will be present at stand 407 in hall 3 from 25 June until 29 June 2017.

'With our presence at the trade fair, we strengthen our position as an innovation driver for laser cooling applications,' says Peter Hirsch, Managing Director of termotek. Today, the entire technotrans group is a full-line cooling system supplier covering nearly all areas of application. With the European premiere of the new 19' rack-mount cooler, termotek presents a product with a high power density that ensures consistent temperature conditions for laser applications and, thereby, a longer service life. All of this is made possible thanks to a compact, speed-controlled double-chamber ring piston compressor. The new cooling device is particularly suitable for small to medium-size CO lasers with a 48 V electrical system, since it can be easily connected to the power supply of the laser.

Another innovation is the termotek rotary piston compressor on a 24 V basis. At the trade fair, it will be presented in an integrated way within a customised air-air cooling system. This new compressor has a particularly low vibration level and is, therefore, particularly suitable for highly precise laser applications. In addition, it impresses with its comparably high energy-efficiency ratio (EER). The EER is the ratio of the refrigerating or heating capacity to the electrical power input. The quiet rotary compressor is specially adapted to particularly vibration-sensitive applications, e.g. in semiconductor or medical device technology, and enables the use of alternative refrigerants.

Natural refrigerants in series production
Alternative refrigerant solutions are becoming increasingly important from an ecological perspective. The EU regulation on fluorinated greenhouse gases stipulates a reduction of industrial emissions by the year 2030, explains Peter Hirsch: 'Sustainability in the cooling and refrigeration sector will be an important aspect for all our customers in the medium term. With us at their side, they are prepared for the future.' As one of the very first manufacturers, the company started to use isobutane, an environmentally friendly alternative to standard PFC-containing refrigerants, as the standard filling during the series production of liquid cooling systems. At the LASER World, termotek will present a model cooler containing the new refrigerant R600a.
