Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today announced the offering of a special optional retirement scheme, called Skim MESRA, to its employees aged 55 and above.

Skim MESRA is a voluntary scheme offered by the Company in response to the request by its employees. This voluntary scheme is open to eligible employees aged 55 and above to take up optional retirement with a special incentive and designated benefits until they reach age 60.

Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM, said, "Over the run up to and the implementation of the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012, TM's management had been continuously engaging with our employees, or Warga TM, in assessing the impact of the new legislation not only from the perspective of TM as the employer, but also from our employees' perspective. Over this time, we had received requests and suggestions relating to early retirement. In formulating this scheme, we have been working closely with our TM employee unions - the National Union of Telecommunications Employees (NUTE), the Union of Telecoms Employees Sarawak (UTES), Sabah Union of Telecom Employees (SUTE) and Sabah Union of Telecommunication Employees (SUTEN)."

Tan Sri Zam concluded, "We value the unrelenting commitment and invaluable contribution our Warga TM make to the Company over their years with us and this scheme gives recognition to the same. In addition, we also extend, as part of the scheme, certain benefits which would be accorded to them should they remain in service with us up to age 60. Needless to say, as one of the top 10 preferred employers in Malaysia, the welfare of our Warga TM figures highly on our management's priorities."

TM Group has implemented the new retirement age of 60 for its employees nationwide effective 1 July 2013 in accordance to the Minimum Retirement Age Act 2012.
