(3 November 2017) Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), which commenced broadcasting in 1967, today celebrated 50 years of service to the people of Hong Kong in providing quality free TV entertainment, news and information. A special gala, TVB Golden Jubilee Dinner cum 2018 Programme Presentation, was held this evening at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. The star-studded event was attended by over a thousand clients, business partners, artistes and staff.

In his welcome address, Dr Charles Chan, Chairman of TVB, expressed his gratitude to the guests for their support over the years. Dr Chan said, 'The lifestyle, work modalities and means of communication today have changed drastically as compared with that of 50 years ago. The rapid development in digital technology in the past five years has brought unprecedented impacts to various sectors, in particular the TV industry. Over the past few years, TVB has been striving to change and innovate, leading to a successful transformation which include:

1. raising quality of programmes of our five free TV channels and co-producing TV dramas with three major mainland online video platforms including Tencent, iQiyi and Youku Toudu;

2. launching a new OTT platform - myTV SUPER in Hong Kong and TVB Anywhere in overseas markets. The services allow viewers to watch TVB programmes anywhere, anytime and using any device; 3. rolling out a new online social media cum entertainment platform, big big channel, offering a different experience to viewers; and 4. investing in movie and US TV drama production, including partnering with CMC for investments in Shaw Brothers in order to continue the movie kingdom; establishment of Flagship Entertainment, a joint venture with CMC and Warner Brothers; and a recent investment in a leading Hollywood production company Imagine to produce TV serials for the US and international markets.' The event also featured the 2018 Programme Presentation highlighting next year's major TVB productions. Entering the 51st year of television broadcasting, TVB will uphold its fine tradition in continuing its quest for new development and business opportunities.
