The "Palacete 10 de Julho" (July 10 Palace) in Pindamonhangaba reopened its doors on December 1 to reveal the Centro de la Memoria Barão Homem de Mello and become a fundamental part of the history of the city where Tenaris's mill in Brazil is located.

"We support initiatives that promote the dissemination of knowledge, culture and encourage changes in attitudes, contributing to the formation of critical and responsible citizens," said Renato Catallini, Tenaris Area Manager in Brazil.

Tenaris sponsored two stages of the restoration process for a total contribution of 3.4 million real (1.3 million US dollars).

"It is a tremendous pleasure to be able to contribute to this achievement," said Roberto Vidigal, President of the Techint Group in Brazil, during the opening ceremony. "There is no civic awareness without history, and this house carries with it the history of coffee, which developed the State of Sao Paulo as well as Brazil." Also in attendance at the ceremony was Tenaris's CEO, Paolo Rocca and Adriana Rosenberg, head of the PROA Foundation.

The new Centro de Memória Barão Homem de Mello (named after the politician and writer who was one of the building's inhabitants in the 19th century) will feature documents from historical archives kept by researchers in Pindamonhangaba. The Fototeca Picture Library, the result of a partnership between Tenaris, Fundación PROA and the Janela Contemporânea association, has a digital lounge for young people to do research, Internet access as well as institutional and historical videos.

"The Centro de Memória will allow for a dialogue between different cultures and generations," said Aparecida Pedroso, the city's Secretary of Education. "This will be a rich space for exchanging knowledge and for conducting research. Here, present times meet history," said Bruno Assami, Fundación PROA representative in Brazil. "The work here has just begun."
