Vietgazprom looked to Tenaris to provide TenarisHydril premium connections and special steel grades to drill the first deepwater well in Vietnam.

November 16, 2016

Drilling the first deepwater well in Vietnam was a challenging task. With water depths of over 1,600 meters and high external pressures, Vietgazprom looked to Tenaris to provide TenarisHydril premium connections and special steel grades to conduct a smooth operation, without rejects or difficulties

In this operation, Vietgazprom ran TenarisHydril Wedge 513® connections and TenarisHydril Wedge 523® connections. Both integral connections offer high compression strength, a feature that makes them ideal for strings that must be pushed into place. The operator also chose TenarisHydril Blue® Series for it's high reliability and versatility, designed for the most complex environments.

The operator also faced an unfavorable condition of H2S dissolved in water, low pH, a susceptible structure and high loads. These conditions increase the risk of cracks, which can propagate until failures occur. For this requirement, Tenaris provided sour service grades with improved resistance to Sulphide Stress Corrosion. In addition, Tenaris supplied high collapse steel grades for environments characterized by high external pressures.

In addition to high-quality products, Tenaris provided Vietgazprom with a wide range of services, including Technical Consulting Services and Field Services, some of them offered in collaboration with licensees.

The whole operation was conducted without difficulties and with zero rejects, Moreover, the 16' integral flush TenarisHydril Wedge 513® connections were efficiently run in triples. This was the first time in which large OD pipes with metal-to-metal seals were run in triples in Vietnam.
