Today marks a major milestone for Tenaris as it celebrates ten years since the inauguration of its threading facility in Qingdao, China, as well as the opening of a new automotive component center.

Tenaris representatives marked the event with a ceremony at the plant in the company of government authorities and customers, and included a tour of the facility and the new center to serve the automotive industry.

'The dual celebration represents Tenaris's longstanding commitment in all areas where it has operations and that's to establish deep roots and growth,' said Roland Balkenende, Tenaris Area Manager for Asia Pacific. 'The investment goes beyond diversifying our industrial activity and it also underscores our mission for sustainable development in the local community.'

The new component center in Qingdao represents an investment of 13 million USD, equipped with high technological level of machineries and a capacity of 15 million pieces per year.

'Today, with the inauguration of the component center we are making a key step in the most important market for airbags, which is China,' said Michele Della Briotta, Tenaris Regional Manager Europe. 'This center will offer local added value and long-term business sustainability in the automotive segment.'

The Tenaris mill in Qingdao, China, currently employs about 130 employees, all of which are local, and who have been integral to enhancing Tenaris' industrial strength in China over the past ten years.

Tenaris's presence in China started in 1970, and in 1992, it opened up its first commercial office. The plant - Tenaris (Qingdao) Steel Pipes Ltd - began operating in 2006, and has since been delivering value to oil and gas customers in China through its manufacturing excellence and the company's global quality, health, safety and environment standards. Tenaris's products and services have been applied in several of the most challenging projects in the country including the deepest onshore project and the ultra high temperature, high pressure and deep wells in Xinjiang province; the first deepwater project in the South China Sea; the first shale gas project and high sour projects in Sichuan province.
