From the beginning of the year until today, telecommunications company Omnitel has installed and launched about 300 new LTE 4G base stations across Lithuania. Having constructed new base stations in the Panemunė region, which is adjacent to the Kaliningrad region (Kaliningrad Oblast), Omnitel became the only operator providing the fastest mobile Internet connection in this part of Lithuania. The company's 4G connectivity is now available to nearly 99 per cent of Lithuanian population.

Up until the beginning of the summer, the development of Omnitel 4G base stations consistently took place in all regions of Lithuania and reached the smallest towns and the most remote areas of the country. The largest difference in the quality of communication will be felt by the residents of Panemunė and tourists crossing this border area of Lithuania. At present, the most advanced 4G mobile communication technology is available here only to Omnitel customers.

'There are almost no populated areas left in Lithuania without the fastest 4G mobile connectivity of Omnitel. As a result of intensive development and investment in quality, the fastest mobile Internet connection is currently available to nearly 99 per cent of the population in Lithuania,' - Mindaugas Varanauskas, Chief Technology Officer at Teo and Omnitel, says.

He notes that the availability of Omnitel LTE connectivity technology is approaching 100 per cent and it would be able to cover the entire territory of the country if there were approved cross-border agreements necessary for such development in border areas.

With nearly 1,000 4G base stations, the mobile network of Omnitel is the largest in Lithuania. Omnitel also has the largest number of 4G cells, which ensures large capacity, speed and coverage of the network.

In 2014 Omnitel was the first in Lithuania to enable 4G+ connectivity for commercial use, allowing to reach the speed rate of up to 200 Mbps. Omnitel 4G++ connectivity, ensuring the download speed of up to 330 Mbps, has been available in Lithuania since last year. The company's customers can use 4G roaming services in 36 countries.

In February this year, Omnitel was the first in the Baltic countries and one of the first in the world to take a step towards the future generation of 5G mobile communication and to implement the latest mobile technology - 4.5G. The data download speed achieved in an actually operating network was more than 750 Mbps.
