Terna, Cariplo Factory and the Cariplo Foundation renew their partnership to boost employment and entrepreneurship amongst young people in the energy sector.

Among the new aspects of this edition is a 'Call for Growth', dedicated to start-ups in the post-seed phase and fast-tracking across the whole country through the best Italian incubators.

The second edition of Next Energy is up and running. The initiative promoted by Terna and the Cariplo Foundation and implemented by Cariplo Factory in collaboration with the Terna Campus.

After the great success of the first edition, (over 200 candidates, with 9 new graduates hired by the company at the end of their internships, and the four start-up finalists - Drone Radio Beacon, Ribes Tech, Sense Square and Cleveral - launching collaborations with Terna), Next Energy is renewing its challenge for young Italian talent in the energy sector.

One of the new features of this edition of Next Energy is the fast-track opportunities available across the whole country, directed by Cariplo Factory through a network which comprises: Polihub, Fondazione Filarete, Digital Magics, Impact Hub, dPixel, LUISS EnLabs, Consorzio ARCA. This means that the selected start-ups will have the possibility to receive specialised and local training from the most suitable organisation based on their technological innovations.

In particular, Next Energy focuses on:
- New graduates, younger than 28, who completed a Masters course in Electrical, Electronic, Management or Mechanical Engineering less than 12 months ago, with a final mark of no less than 110/110 or 100/100 (Call for Talent). 10 of these new graduates will be selected for a six-month internship with Terna.

- Teams of innovators, with at least one person younger than 35 when applying for the post, and a project based on initiatives or technologies with a TRL (Technology Readiness Level) of between 2-4 (Call for Ideas). 10 of these teams of innovators and/or start-ups will be selected for a fast-track programme lasting a maximum of three months. The best project will win a prize of € 50,000 (services vouchers).

- Start-ups working within the EU, with a CTO amongst their staff and which have investments of at least € 50,000. Another requirement is that the start-up has positively tested at least one prototype and possesses a marketable product/service and technology with a TRL of between 5-8. (Call for Growth). A maximum of 5 start-ups will be accepted into growlTup, Cariplo Factory's open-innovation platform, with the aim of defining potential areas of synergy with Terna and a pilot project for testing.

Those interested in participating in Next Energy can find out more by reading the details on our website, at nextenergy.cariplofactory.it.

New graduates, innovators and start-uppers have until 08 November to apply. After this, the selection phase will commence, which will lead to the 10 Call for Talent internships (from 02 January to 30 June 2018), the 10 Call for Ideas fast-track paths (from 02 January to 31 March) and the growlTup platform for the 5 Call for Growth start-ups (before 31 May 2018).

'The second edition of Next Energy continues our fruitful collaboration with the Cariplo Foundation which came into being last year, aimed at promoting young talent in the electricity sector and supporting the growth of innovative projects and ideas' - declared Terna's Chairwoman, Catia Bastioli. 'The ability, talent and passion that emerged in the first edition strengthened our resolve to repeat the initiative, introducing important new aspects, including a specific category for more mature start-ups. Ideas and dynamism are crucial stimuli to focus on in order to encourage the sustainable development of our electricity system and generate value for the Country'.

'Terna is an important organisation with whom we wanted to create a top-priority project aimed at generating employment for young people' - adds Giuseppe Guzzetti, President of the Cariplo Foundation. 'We refuse to accept the idea that a country could be incapable of offering its young people concrete employment paths. The experience of Next Energy, which has just started up again, demonstrates how to harness the talent and ability of our young people. We must identify the right way of going about harnessing these virtues - I'm sure that this edition of the initiative will also bring about very compelling projects and ideas, and with the support of the Cariplo Foundation and Terna we will be able to bring them to life.'

'The second edition is also reigniting the flame of Next Energy's ambitions' - commented Carlo Mango, Cariplo Factory's Managing Director. 'First of all because the network of fast-trackers and incubators that we've created all over Italy allows us to follow the progress of start-ups involved in the project in an even more effective way. Furthermore, thanks to the involvement of growlTup, our open-innovation platform created in collaboration with Microsoft, we will also be able to work with start-ups in the post-seed phase, already capable of bringing value to Terna. We are convinced that, thanks to these new aspects, Next Energy will be able to further promote the company's talents and ideas'.
