Demand up 0.7% on October

Rome, 19 December 2016 - In November 2016, according to data collected by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, electricity demand in Italy was 25.9 billion kWh, basically in line with the same month last year (-0.1%).

Demand in the first eleven months of 2016 decreased by 2.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2015. Based on the same number of days, the result was -2.4%.

At the regional level, in November 2016 there was an increase in the North (+0.3%) and in Central Italy (+0.2%), and a decrease in the South (-1%).

The short-term profile for November 2016 showed an increase in electricity demand compared to the previous month (+0.7%). This represents an upward trend.

In November 2016, 92.7% of the electricity demand was met with national production and the remaining part (7.3%) was met with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. In more detail, net national production (24.3 billion kWh) grew by 14.4% compared to November 2015. Wind-power production increased (+37.4%), as did thermal production (+16.5%) and hydroelectric power (+7.8%), while solar (-10.5%) and geothermal (-4.3%) dropped.
