The short-term profile for March 2015 showed a seasonally adjusted variation in electricity demand compared to the previous month equal to +0.7%. The trend is slightly increasing, at a level that continues to be stable.
In the first quarter of 2015, the electricity demand remained more or less at the same level as compared to the volumes in the corresponding period of last year; based on the same number of days, the demand increased slightly (+0.2%). The same increase of +0.2% was also seen in short- term profile as compared to the last quarter 2014.
The 26.5 billion kWh demand in March 2015 was distributed as follows: 45.9% in the North, 30.2%
in Central Italy and 23.9% in the South.
At the regional level, the March 2015 variation trend was positive everywhere and differentiated as follows: +0.4% in the North, +1.9% in Central Italy and +1.9% in the South.
In March 2015, 83.7% of the electricity demand was met with national production while the remaining part (16.3%) was provided by the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. In detail, net national production (22.4 billion kWh) grew by +2.8% compared to March
2014. Thermal (+11.4%), geothermal (+6.3%) and wind power (+27.7%) energy production increased, Hydroelectric (-29.3%) and wind photovoltaic (-2.1%) production both decreased.
The detailed analysis of provisional 2015 and 2014 monthly electricity demand will be made available in the publication "Rapporto Mensile sul Sistema Elettrico", (Italian version only) under the section "Sistema elettrico >> Dispacciamento >>Dati esercizio" at www.terna.it.
