Research Reports On September 1, 2014, Bloomberg reported that Telefonica SA is planning to sell shares in its Brazilian telecommunications group subsidiary- Telefonica Brasil, S.A. (Telefonica Brasil), to finance the bulk of its EUR7.45 billion ($9.8 billion) acquisition of Vivendi's brazil unit - Global Village Telecom, S.A. (GVT). As per the data compiled by Bloomberg, the report suggested that Telefonica SA's plan to sell new Telefonica Brasil stock to fund the cash portion of the transaction (EUR4.66 billion) will leave the division's net debt steady at about 0.3 times earnings. Citing Walt Piecyk, an analyst at BTIG LLC in New York, Bloomberg added that at such debt level, Telefonica Brasil could borrow money to acquire more assets.
