Time Warner Cable (TWC), one of the largest providers of video, high-speed data and voice services in the United States, has formally submitted a bid to play an integral role in the North Carolina Next Generation Network (NCNGN) project. The NCNGN is a regional initiative to support educational and economic development by accelerating the deployment of ultra-high-speed Internet access.

"With more than 6,600 employees and 1.6 million customers in North Carolina, Time Warner Cable has a vested interest in the region's continued success and development," said Rob Marcus, Time Warner Cable president and chief operating officer. "We have a long history of providing innovative technology to the state and believe our highly reliable, advanced network can exceed the future requirements of the NCNGN to deliver speeds of 1 Gigabit per second."

Already, Time Warner Cable Business Class (TWCBC) is the largest school data provider in North Carolina, serving 25 school systems across the state. With TWCBC's education investment, 16 of those systems and more than 717 schools utilize superfast speeds up to 1 Gigabit today. To date, Time Warner Cable has invested more than $1.5 billion and built more than 28,000 miles of fiber and coax infrastructure throughout the areas covered in the NCNGN request for proposal.

"Time Warner Cable has been a valued business partner for the state of North Carolina and is committed to seeing the state succeed," said North Carolina Representative Marilyn Avila. "The additional infrastructure investment Time Warner Cable proposes will position our region with even more broadband capabilities that can lead to educational and economic growth."

"As a technology leader in Raleigh and across the country, Time Warner Cable is well-positioned to help our community thrive by bringing the next generation broadband network to our area," said North Carolina Senator Neal Hunt.

"We remain committed to delivering products that meet the high-speed data needs of our customers who want the fastest speeds for their computers, smartphones and game consoles. Our network is capable of, and is already delivering, multiple Gigabit speeds and so much more, meeting customers' needs today and into the future," added Marcus.
