Submission of plan for expansion, etc. concerning application for evaluation of conformity to the new regulatory requirements for Unit 1 of the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station

Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter, "Tohoku EPCO") today submitted a plan for expansion, etc. to the governments of Aomori Prefecture and the Higashidori Village in order to obtain their prior approval before applying for evaluation of conformity to the new regulatory requirements for Unit 1 of the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station, based on Chapter 3 of the letter of agreement on security and environmental conservation in the proximity of areas around the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station* ("Security Agreement").
To further secure the safety of the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station, Tohoku EPCO considers it important to undergo a comprehensive evaluation, as soon as possible, on the conformity to the new regulatory requirements by the Nuclear Regulation Authority. For this reason, Tohoku EPCO plans to apply for evaluation of conformity to the Nuclear Regulation Authority as soon as it obtains prior approval from the governments of Aomori Prefecture and Higashidori Village.
Regarding the construction work schedule to take safety measures based on the new regulatory requirements at the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station, Tohoku EPCO had set July 2015 as the target completion date, and to resume operations of the nuclear power station before then; however, the company reviewed this schedule and reset the target for completion and resuming of operations of the nuclear power station to March 2016.
To improve the safety level of the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station, Tohoku EPCO will continue to make efforts in both the facility and human aspects.
