1. Electricity Demand (See Table 1)

   Electric power sold in October decreased from a year ago to 5,642 GWh, which was 98.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. An increase in cooling demand caused by an extended period of hot temperatures in September could not cover the decrease caused by a shorter period of meter reading and a decrease in contract demand.

   The details are as follows:

   • Lighting (Residential)

     Although an extended period of hot temperatures in September raised the cooling demand, power demand in the lighting (residential) sector was 98.5% compared to the same period of the previous year owing to a shorter period of meter reading.

   • Power

   Despite the cooling demand increase in September, power demand in the power sector was 98.6% compared to the same period of the previous year resulting from a decrease in contract demand.

2. Electricity Supply (See Table 2)

Our generated and purchased power in October totaled 6,178 GWh, which was 97.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

(Power generated by our own hydro power stations)

Even though a water flow rate was 89.3%, it surpassed that of the previous year by 9.1%. As a result, our hydro power generated output increased by 10 GWh from the previous year, totaling 398 GWh.

(Power generated by our own thermal power stations)

Due to differences in operational conditions and other factors, our thermal power generated output was down to 4,033 GWh, a decrease of 785 GWh from the previous year.

(Power generated by our own nuclear power stations)

All units of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station and unit 1 of the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station have been shut down because of a regular inspection; therefore, there was no generated output from our nuclear power stations.

(Power generated by our own facilities using renewables and new energy)

Owing to differences in operational conditions in geothermal power stations and other factors, generated output of renewables and new energy was 64 GWh, a decrease of 4 GWh from the previous year.

(Power purchased from other companies)

Due to differences in operational conditions in other companies' thermal power stations and other factors, power purchased from other companies was 2,054 GWh, an increase of 264 GWh from the previous year.
