The United States is set to begin charging import duties of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminium from Friday.

Rusal said it has been supplying the United States with the low carbon aluminium that American consumers increasingly demand.

"We believe that Russia should be exempt from tariffs in order to protect U.S. consumers from price increases and to ensure that American manufacturing companies can remain competitive," Rusal said.
