All 162 stores in the Weis chain will host donation drives for local animal shelters
SUNBURY, PA (April 28, 2016) - Weis Markets today announced the launch of its eighth annual Paws for Pets program, a company-wide initiative that collects monetary donations, pet food, and supplies for local animal shelters and rescue organizations throughout the month of May.
'May is National Pet Month and Paws for Pets is one of our most popular programs,' said Brian Holt, Vice President of Advertising and Marketing for Weis Markets. 'Each year, our customers make generous donations to help improve the lives of homeless pets. This year, their donations will help more than a hundred local animal shelters in the markets we serve.'
During the month-long program, customers can give $1, $3 or $5 donations at the register, purchase specially designed Paws for Pets reusable shopping bags for $2 a bag, or give online at WeisMarkets.com. All contributions will go to local animal shelters in the store's community.
Weis customers can also contribute to Paws For Pets while they shop by purchasing the following items on shelters' wish lists before placing them in a specially marked collection cart near checkout:
Dog, cat, puppy and kitten food, as well as food and water bowls
Kitty litter
Collars, harnesses and leashes
Toys and treats
Pet shampoos, nail clippers, pet brushes, combs
Dishwashing liquid, bleach, mops and brooms, towels/washcloths and powder-free latex gloves
Since 2008, Weis Markets has generated more than $1 million in donations for local animal shelters through its Paw For Pets program. Select stores are also planning to host animal adoptathons throughout the month, helping to connect shoppers with new furrever friends.
