Recently, a grand donation ceremony was held in Fuzhou University. Zijin Mining Group made another donation of RMB10 million to Zijin Mining College in supporting its discipline construction, acquisition of equipments used in teaching and scientific and technology research, talent introduction as well as the faculty building.

This is another "close contact". In March 2007, Zijin Mining signed the cooperation agreement with Fuzhou University, co-founder of the Zijin Mining College. Five years since then, this Institute walked out a new way for school-enterprise cooperation in running schools and created a new mode of Higher Engineering Education - Zijin Mode. Its unique and efficient school-enterprise Community, as high as 100% employment rate, and benign docking of the school-enterprise culture have caused widespread attention of the National Higher Engineering Education in the academic and even the education sector as a whole.

Zijin Mode: Creating the School-Enterprise Community

So, what makes the Zijin Mode so unique? Mr. Liu Yu, dean of Zijin Mining College, summarized into three points: the full support of school construction from enterprise, full participation in the educational process by enterprise, inspection of effectiveness from all aspects by enterprise.

Mr. Liu told reporters that "a College Council has been jointly established which is responsible for the decision-making, inspection, guidance, supervision and coordination of all aspects of the College development. Things such as academic development goals, discipline construction, personnel training, direction settings, even the interaction among research, study and industry and school funding, will be decided by both sides together."

In terms of supporting school construction, in the past five years, Zijin Group has donated more than RMB 24 million to assisting the construction of teaching infrastructure, introduction of talents, and the building of Provincial Key Laboratory. Another RMB150 million has been invested in Shanghang County, Fujian Prov. near the headquarters of Zijin Mining to build the China's first school-enterprise senior mining personnel training base - the Shanghang Practice Teaching Base, which will provide Zijin Mining College with the unique conditions and advantages to carry out a Cooperative Education with comprehensive combination of research, study and the industry.

Participation in the process of running the school-enterprise program of both sides is very impressive. A previous Council Schedule of the Zijin Mining College shows that 10 Board Meetings were held from May 2007 to December 2011 whose agenda included the appointment of the members of the Council, dean and vice president of the school, the development plan of the school and major setting.


The Zijin exploration: solve the inherent problems of engineering education

In June 2011, Zijin Mining College had its first batch of graduates. They offered an excellent result to the school: the first 71 graduates achieved a 100 percent employment rate by either finding a job or being involved in further postgraduate studies.

The high employment rate, as well as the good feedback from the employers has immediately aroused extensive attention in the society, some of the engineering colleges and universities specially sent delegations to the institute to learn how to get rid of the original problems of engineering education of emphasizing on theory study over practice and out of touch between school and society.

In solving the original problems of the higher engineering education, Zijin does have its own experience.

Mining is a very practical major and requires its teachers to have not only a solid theoretical knowledge but also a wealth of practical experience. The College attaches great importance to the construction of faculty. A large number of dual-qualified teachers with rich work experience have been selected for Shanghang Teaching Base, some of them are front line workers. Many of them are the presidents of the major mining companies or professorial senior engineers with high education and rich practical experience.

"Dual qualified" teachers system breaks the barriers between schools and enterprises. After years of development, more than 80% of the full-time teachers of Zijin Mining College became "dual-qualified" teachers. In addition, the College also employs 55 "Dual-qualified" part-time teachers from Zijin Group and other enterprises.

The College also pays special attention to the students' practice based on mining projects. The students stay in the base for their last one and half years before graduation, extending their practice cycle to improve their engineering practice and innovation ability.


Zijin revelation: the docking of the campus culture and enterprise culture

Driven by the "Dual-qualified" teaching and base practice as well as the benign docking of the campus culture and the corporate culture, new graduates from Zijin Mining Institute as show extraordinary skills and win trust from their employers.

"In addition to school education, students can get a corporate education from Zijin, which is actually another form of ideological education. Under the influence of the two cultures simultaneously, students can not only lay foundation for their future work, but also gain positive impact to their view on study and career. " College Party Secretary Huang Peiming said.

Corporate education gives students personal experience and understanding of teamwork and correct working attitude under difficult conditions. Chenpeng Hui, majoring in Mining Engineer, told reporters that 27 of his classmates are stationed in the Zijinshan Copper Mine and they start working at 8:00 along with the copper -mine workers to carry out productive internship practice every day. "In the Mine, we are just like real team members of the Mine. We carried out learning and practice activities entirely according to the requirements of the enterprise. By doing so, we learned not only how to work in the enterprise but also how and what to learn now." the young man said.

Zijin also brings adjustment of the students' view on career selection. Chen Lu, who will graduate this summer, told the reporter, "Now I pay more attention to the development space provide by the enterprise and how can I create more value for the enterprise other than treatment and compensation given by the corporation."
