MANNHEIM (dpa-AFX) - The former head of management consultancy Deloitte, Punit Renjen, has been elected to the supervisory board of software group SAP. Shareholders of the Dax heavyweight voted for Renjen by a large majority at the annual general meeting in Mannheim. The 61-year-old is to take over from Hasso Plattner as chairman of the supervisory board next year, as the company had already announced in February. Plattner's term of office ends in May 2024.

The footprints left by Plattner could not be bigger, said Renjen, who was not stingy with praise for Plattner and SAP: "Hasso Plattner is unique. An icon, a legend." He is fully aware of the responsibility, the U.S. American said. The potential that still lies dormant in SAP and that needs to be unleashed is both an inspiration and an aspiration for him.

Plattner founded SAP in 1972 together with Dietmar Hopp, Claus Wellenreuther, Klaus Tschira and Hans-Werner Hector. From 1997 to May 2003, he was the company's CEO. He then moved to the Supervisory Board and has held the chairmanship ever since./rwi/asn/DP/he
