Canadian National Railway Co. on Tuesday said Jean-Jacques Ruest, its chief executive and president, is expected to retire at the end of January.

Mr. Ruest will also step down from the board at that time.

Mr. Ruest may retire at a later time after a successor has been appointed "to ensure a flawless transition," the company said.

CN's board has appointed a committee to search for a successor for Mr. Ruest, the company said, adding Korn Ferry will be working on the effort.

Also on Tuesday, CN said it is assuming total revenue ton miles in 2021 will increase in the low single-digit range from 2020. Last month, the railroad said it was assuming an increase in the mid single-digit range.
