Profile

Dr. Breuel has been the Board Member of Novartis AG since 1996.
She was Minister of Economy and Transport (1978–1986) and Minister of Finance (1986–1990) of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), the second largest state of Germany.
In 1990, she was elected to the Executive Board of the Treuhandanstalt, which was responsible for the privatization of the former East Germany’s economy; in 1991, she became the President of the Treuhandanstalt.
From 1995 to 2000, she acted as the General Commissioner and CEO of the world exhibition EXPO 2000 in Hanover, Germany.
She is a Member of the Supervisory Board of Gruner+Jahr AG, Hamburg, Germany, of WWF, Germany, and of HGV (Hamburger Gesellschaft für Vermögensund Beteiligungsverwaltung mbH), Germany.
She studied politics at the Universities of Hamburg, Oxford and Geneva.
