Future Fund
Future Fund Financial ConglomeratesFinance The Future Fund is the Australian Government's Sovereign Wealth Fund which was established by the Future Fund Act 2006 as a financial asset fund designed to accumulate financial assets and invest them on behalf of the Australian Government to address their unfunded superannuation liability. The Fund operates independently from the government and aims to deliver high risk-adjusted returns over the long-term on contributions to special purpose public funds. The Future Fund is based in Melbourne and is overseen by an independent Board of Guardians. Supported by the Future Fund Management Agency, they are also responsible for the investment of the Higher Education Endowment Fund (HEEF). The Future Fund Management Agency develops recommendations to the Board of Guardians on the most appropriate investment strategy for each fund and for their implementation. In addition, they perform all administrative and operational functions associated with the management of the funds. The governing legislation stipulates that money may not be withdrawn from the Future Fund until 2020 except for the purpose of meeting the operating costs or unless the Fund's balance exceeds the target asset level as defined by the Future Fund Act. Contributions to the Future Fund and HEEF come from the Australian Government's budget surpluses. The Future Fund has also received contributions resulting from the proceeds of the sale of the Government's stake in Telstra in 2006. | 10 years |
