(Alliance News) - Advanced Medical Solutions Group PLC on Monday said it has appointed Liz Shanahan as chair, effective January 1 following a handover period

The Cheshire, England-based surgical dressings company said current Non-Executive Director Shanahan would replace incumbent Chair Peter Allen.

It was previously announced Allen would step down after ten years with Advanced Medical Solutions.

Advanced Medical Solutions said Shanahan is a "life sciences entrepreneur with extensive experience advising leading global pharmaceutical and healthcare organisations on their communications.

Shanahan is currently a non-executive director at AIM-listed firms Inspiration Healthcare Group PLC and Celadon Pharmaceuticals PLC, alongside formerly being non-executive director at UDG Healthcare PLC until its GBP2.8 billion takeover in August 2021.

Advanced Medical Solutions said a search is underway for the appointment of an additional independent non-executive director.

"We look forward to welcoming Liz as Chair in January. Her many years of life sciences experience and significant contribution to AMS since joining as a non-executive director made her the ideal candidate to now lead the board from 2024 onwards. Having worked with Liz for the past years, I know the benefit, insight and strategic guidance Liz will bring as we work closely together to execute the AMS growth strategy," said Advanced Medical Solutions Chief Executive Officer Chris Meredith.

""I want to express my personal thanks to Peter Allen. His commitment, passion and advice have been invaluable over the past ten years and he has led the board through a significant period of growth."

Shanahan commented: "I am delighted to assume the role of chair of AMS during this pivotal time for the business, with entry into new markets and product categories on the near horizon. It is clear to me that the business has the ambition and capabilities to execute on the attractive long-term growth opportunities in its markets."

Allen added: "I am proud of what AMS has achieved during my time as chair, particularly the integration of several acquisitions, expansion of both the surgical and woundcare businesses and the benefit we have brought for patients and payors through this."

Shares in Advanced Medical Solutions were up 1.1% to 203.12 pence each in London on Monday morning.
