(Alliance News) - Agronomics Ltd on Monday said its portfolio company Good Dog Food Ltd, which trades as Meatly, has created cans of pet food that use cultivated chicken.

The Isle of Man-based venture capital firm, which invests in the cellular agriculture field, said the product was created in collaboration with Meatly's partner Omni Pet Ltd, which specialises in protein pet food.

Meatly is currently awaiting regulatory approval to sell its pet food across the UK.

Pets at Home Ltd plans to be the first retailer to offer these products in its stores, it added.

Agronomics Chair Jim Mellon said: "This partnership shows the rapid progress Meatly has made in a very short period of time. Founded only 2 years ago, and with minimal capital, the company has now demonstrated it is ready to bring its product to market with key partners in the pet food industry. While regulatory approval has taken longer than anticipated, we are optimistic that Meatly's work with the governing authorities will be able to accelerate the timeline and launch its product shortly after."

Shares in Agronomics were down 0.9% at 8.90 pence each in London on Monday afternoon.
