Producers of metals and other raw materials fell as the dollar rose against rivals.

Shares of Alcoa rallied after the London Metal Exchange and other venues banned the trading of newly produced Russian aluminum, nickel and copper, likely buoying demand for metal processed by the American producer. Metals prices also rose in the wake of the restrictions.

Shares of Russian producer United Co. Rusal slipped.
