MEXICO CITY, July 12 (Reuters) - Shareholders of Mexico's Alfa approved on Tuesday the spin-off of its 53.9% stake in telecommunications subsidiary Axtel, according to a filing with the Mexican stock exchange.

The company expects to complete the process before the end of the year.

The Monterrey-based company, whose business lines include food and telecommunications, will constitute a new company to transfer all of its participation in Axtel's capital, according to the statement.

The company will be listed in the Mexican stock exchange as Controladora Axtel.

The company had previously touted plans to sell Axtel in October 2020, and in April of this year said it had not yet found a buyer. (Reporting by Valentine Hilaire; Editing by Leslie Adler and Muralikumar Anantharaman)
