There is no buyer waiting in the wings to purchase Sears Canada, according to a spokesperson for Sears Canada Inc. (TSX:SCC). Canadian discount retailer Giant Tiger and Amazon have been suggested as possible suitors for some or all of the Sears Canada assets. "It's kind of par for the course, people like to speculate," said Joel Shaffer, partner, Longview Communications Inc., the firm that has been hired to speak to issues related to the Sears Canada insolvency.

"If there is a buyer for Sears Canada, it's not Giant Tiger Stores Limited,” said Alison Scarlett, manager, brand communications, Giant Tiger. The idea that Amazon might be interested in Sears assets in the U.S. has been floated in the financial press in recent weeks, but while the online retailer might be interested in some of the Sears Canada assets, it won't be bidding on the whole company, according to retail experts.
