ArcelorMittal announced on Friday that it had entrusted dss+, a specialist external service provider, with the task of carrying out a global assessment of its safety performance.

When it published its quarterly results last month, the steelmaker announced its intention to commission an independent expert to identify any shortcomings and prevent the occurrence of serious accidents.

The dss+ assessment - to be carried out at the Group's 350 sites - will focus on risk analysis and data reporting, using a systemic approach.

At the end of the audit, which is expected to last around nine months, the service provider will issue a number of recommendations covering the areas identified for improvement, the results of which will be communicated in September 2024.

Following the 22 deaths recorded among group employees last year, including 14 in Kazakhstan, ArcelorMittal has set itself the target of achieving 'zero fatal accidents'.
