SÃO PAULO--Brazilian lender Itaú Unibanco Holding said Tuesday it's in preliminary talks to sell its Argentine unit to Argentina's Banco Macro.

Itaú said that it hasn't signed any binding agreements with Banco Macro, and that it will inform markets immediately if and when it does.

Itaú is Brazil's biggest bank by assets, and it also has units in other South American countries including Chile and Colombia.
