BEAZER HOMES USA, INC.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT AND POLICY STATEMENT

Last Revised: February 7, 2024

Beazer Homes is committed to minimizing the impact of our business on the environment with methods that are socially responsible, scientifically based and economically sound and sustainable.

Our Board of Directors oversees our Environmental Commitment and Policy Statement, including overseeing our climate-related risks and opportunities. Executive leadership, including our Chief Executive Officer and Compliance Officer, implement our policy and consider and manage our climate-related risks and opportunities.

Our commitment to the environment extends to helping our customers, employees and partners understand the environmental performance of our business, and pursuing resilient process modifications that reduce pollution and waste and encourage the efficient use of natural resources.

Our environmental strategy includes the energy efficiency over the life cycle of our homes, which last decades. This benefit is multiplied with each home we build and reduces the impact of the overall built environment through reduced energy demand and GHG emissions over the life cycle of each home we construct. We are also committed to reviewing and refining our overall impact on the environment, including reducing waste and water use.

Environmental Commitment

At Beazer, we are committed to:

  • Protecting natural resources in accordance with applicable requirements
  • Complying with all applicable environmental laws and regulations
  • Working to better measure and monitor greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, water use, and waste, and reduce our environmental impact
  • Promoting environmental awareness with our customers, employees, and our vendor partners
  • Consulting and engaging with vendor partners on process improvements that can have a positive impact on the environment
  • Reporting regularly on our environmental efforts and our progress

I. Building More Sustainable Communities

In our pursuit of building communities with less environmental impact, we are committed to reviewing and refining environmental impacts of our land acquisition process and our design and land development practices.

A. Land Acquisition

All land acquired by Beazer is required to go through an environmental review, which includes a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) where among other things Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) are identified, as well as a Phase II ESA (when required). If any RECs are identified in the Phase I ESA, corrective action is performed if needed to mitigate the condition in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws.

B. Community Design and Land Development

In the design and development of our communities, we strive to minimize the impact to the environment with our practices, including:

  • Managing stormwater according to our Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program (SWPPP) during development and construction activities by reducing dust, preventing pollution by concrete materials, and creating retention ponds where required
  • Encouraging consideration and use of native plants and sustainable landscaping

II. Building More Sustainable Homes

We are proud of the progress that we have made in providing our customers with energy-efficient homes. The savings, durability, and comfort that our homeowners enjoy in those homes creates significant value for them and has a positive impact on the environment due to the decreased energy demands of those homes. Every Beazer home is certified ENERGY STAR® by the US Environmental Protection Agency and we are making significant progress in our commitment to build and certify every home as Zero Energy Ready under the Department of Energy's program by 2025.
