- higher interest expense due primarily to higher rates on deposits and higher borrowing balances at higher rates;
- lower income related to investments in other equity interests for the fourth quarter and year ended
December 31, 2023 , as$2.7 million of other income was recognized upon a change in accounting policy election for certain equity investments in the fourth quarter of 2022 that was not repeated in 2023; - provision for credit losses of
$75,000 and$1.6 million for the fourth quarter and year endedDecember 31, 2023 , respectively, compared to$100,000 provision for credit losses and a net reversal of provision for credit losses of$600,000 for the fourth quarter and year endedDecember 31, 2022 , respectively; - higher salaries and employee benefits expense, which have generally increased in line with employment market conditions;
- higher
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) assessment expenses, due primarily to statutory increases applicable to all insured depository institutions; - higher costs related to the implementation of a new loan origination system;
- higher debit and credit card interchange processing expenses; and
- no gains recognized during the fourth quarter and year ended
