Involved in metropolitan Melbourne local government for over three decades, Cardno, now Stantec's Mendo Brajanovski has witnessed the city's transformation into a distinct buzz that distinguishes it from other Australian cities. And the urban transformation hasn't finished yet.

Migrating from Macedonia when he was 2 years old, the Brajanovski family settled in the inner city Western suburb of Footscray.

Growing up near the river banks of the Maribyrnong, young Mendo loved his new home and surrounds.

As he grew older, and having a natural flair for maths and science, Mendo fell into the engineering profession.

Starting out his career in engineering survey set outs, while on the job in the Dandenong ranges, Mendo literally fell into a hole. Luckily unscathed but cold and wet, Mendo decided he wanted an office job and landed in the City of Melbourne's engineering department, where he stayed for 10 years.

Armed with solid local government experience, Mendo transitioned into private industry, where he was exposed to a variety of projects. Mendo joined Cardno, now Stantec, 13 years ago, leading the City of Melbourne engineering design team and being the conduit between the council and the civil construction contractor. The team's priority is to provide the client value for money and designs that are fit for purpose, collaborating with the various stakeholders.

I've always had a keen interest in construction - observing the many stages from design and documentation through to the end product. I'm very proud of my team's involvement in the city streetscape, watching the designs come to fruition.

  • Early design and roll-out of DDA compliant tram platforms
  • Project management and design of the hostile vehicle design for many major Melbourne landmarks
I'm big on building relationships with clients and offering my services to the best of my ability. I'm passionate about sharing my knowledge with others to make their job more enjoyable and easier.

Known by his friends and colleagues as a walking street map, Mendo knows the city like the back of his hand. He has the uncanny knack when shown any city CBD street corner, Mendo can correctly identify the exact street.

Skills developed by a person who loves his job and where he works.

At Cardno, now Stantec, our people are close to the action. We are big enough to deliver with connected teams and small enough to make it personal. Mendo is valued for his contribution and actively encourages his team with his knowledge and passion.
