COSCOL, a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping has turned its focus to the Antarctica after taking the lead in opening the northeast channel to the Arctic and constantly expanding its scale of operation. COSCOL and CEIEC signed a contract to provide logistics services for the reconstruction of the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station, a Brazilian Antarctic research station in Shanghai on the afternoon of September 14. Han Guomin, General Manager of COSCOL and Qu Huimin, President of CEIEC attended the ceremony and gave speeches.

In his speech, Mr. Han stated that the reconstruction of the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station is an Antarctic program that Chinese enterprises are independently participating, and also a great event for centrally-owned companies to implement the 'Go Global' policy and a landmark for Chinese enterprises to march towards the Antarctica. He said that COSCOL would provide the best services for their partner and be a bastion of Chinese enterprises to the world together with CEIEC.

It is learnt that COSCOL has fully prepared to secure that the Antarctic program can be carried out safely and smoothly. It convened a seminar over the climate and working environment safety in Antarctica on September 13 and invited Chinese polar experts and scholars to discuss the situation and work related to shipping and navigation support in Antarctica. Captain Wei Wenliang, who has led expeditions to Antarctica twelve times, also attended the seminar.

COSCOL is the first Chinese enterprise to launch polar shipping and exploration and also the most experienced Chinese shipping line in polar shipping at this point. Its cooperation with CEIEC will enable COSCOL to further explore Antarctic waters and open a new chapter in exploring China's ocean shipping business.
