BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - In the dispute over damages for the burst passenger car toll, there is an understanding, according to the operator side. As the Kapsch company announced in a Borsen obligatory release on Wednesday, a payment from the federal government of 243 million euros is to be expected "due to a reached settlement agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany." It was first reported by Der Spiegel.

The toll - a CSU prestige project in the then federal government - had been stopped in June 2019 by the European Court of Justice (ECJ) as illegal. Immediately afterwards, the federal government terminated the contracts with the intended operators, and they initially demanded 560 million euros in damages. However, the federal government and the then Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) strictly rejected the claims. This was followed by arbitration proceedings.

The 243 million euros are to be paid to the company Autoticket - the joint venture of toll specialist Kapsch and ticket provider CTS Eventim was to be the operator of the passenger car toll. With the payment, "the mutual claims from the operator contract would be settled and compared," Kapsch explained. The settlement is expected to be finalized and executed in the coming days and thus become effective./sam/hoe/DP/ngu
