STROUDSBURG - Aetna Better Health Kids, a CVS Health company (NYSE: CVS) announced a donation of $75,000 from Aetna to Pocono Mountains United Way.

The donation will support the execution of Pocono Mountains United Way's three-year strategic plan, which aims to address social determinants of health for individuals with low income and limited financial resources in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountains United Way works to improve issues related to education, financial stability and health equity within Monroe County's most under-resourced communities. Monroe County, and the surrounding Pocono Mountains region, consists of primarily rural communities, which pose unique health challenges, including a lack of access to critical health and social services. Pocono Mountains United Way is working to increase access to programs, such as early childhood education, housing and rental assistance, food pantries and more, aimed at increasing the quality of life for individuals with low income and limited financial resources.

'Pocono Mountains United Way has been a longstanding partner of Aetna Better Health Kids, and we're proud to continue our ongoing commitment to addressing the unique needs of communities in Monroe County and the Pocono Mountains,' said Jerold Mammano, division president, Aetna Medicaid. 'We believe in the strategic vision of Pocono Mountains United Way, and this donation is a testament to our shared dedication to making a positive difference in the lives of individuals residing in these areas. We look forward to seeing the tangible outcomes of our joint efforts and enhancing the well-being of the communities we serve.'

Previous support from Aetna Better Health Kids to Pocono Mountains United Way have helped advance initiatives in early childhood development. In recent years, Aetna supported Pocono Mountains United Way's Healthy Start Early Childhood Screening program, resulting in over 3,500 screenings completed and a 63% increase in referrals from a pre-pandemic baseline.

'With 43% of Monroe County residents falling into the Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, Employed (ALICE) category, there is undoubtedly a critical need for support in this region. But progress doesn't happen overnight, and that's why Pocono Mountains United Way is committed to being a long-term resource for individuals in the Poconos region,' said Michael Tukeva, president and CEO of Pocono Mountains United Way. 'Aetna Better Health Kids' ongoing support comes at a crucial time as we continue to implement our three-year strategic plan, enabling us to address the unique challenges faced by individuals in the ALICE category in Monroe County. Together, we can continue to improve the health and well-being of our residents.'
