This optional build-in dashboard automatisceh steering system should reduce overlap of operations. It works only for straight lines. Those who want more can, however, install a G5 monitor, after which more GPS steering options become available.

The updated 5M series consists of five tractors, with the smallest having an output of 55 kW (75 hp), which it gets from a 2.9-liter Deere engine. The other tractors feature a 4.5-liter engine. The tractors are equipped with a new PowrQuad Plus and Powr8 transmission. In the former, the transmission automatically shifts between four powershift stages out of four gears. Disengaging with the foot to shift between groups is no longer necessary. For that, John Deere mounted a push button on the gearshift. In addition, the EcoShift function can reduce engine speed to save fuel during transport. The Powr8 transmission with 32 forward and a6 reverse speeds, shifts eight powershift gears automatically.

The machines have a 4.1-meter turning radius, a low hood and a large skylight. All of which should help make front-loader work easier. The series also features Expert Alerts. This indicates when maintenance is needed.

Automatic steering

John Deere equips the 5M tractor with a display that shows the position of the tractor and a straight A-B line. The tractor automatically steers over that line. In the basic version, the tractor cannot handle curved A-B lines.
