Doosan : Enerbility Signs MOU with Korea Midland Power on Pursuing Super-sized Offshore Wind Project

On August 31st, Doosan Enerbility announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea Midland Power(KOMIPO) on the joint development of next generation offshore wind turbines and pursuit of offshore wind projects. In attendance at the MOU signing ceremony were key figures from the two companies, including Hobin Kim, President & CEO of KOMIPO, and Yeonin Jung, President & COO of Doosan Enerbility.

With the signing of this MOU, the two parties agreed to cooperate across all stages of the offshore wind value chain, including the research & development, demonstration and commercialization of 20MW-plus next generation offshore wind turbines. The two companies will also be working together on building a large-scale commercialization complex to promote the Korean domestic offshore wind ecosystem and will be collaborating on targeting the global market. Doosan Enerbility will be taking on the roles of design, manufacturing and demonstration of the next generation offshore wind turbines, while KOMIPO will be responsible for providing support in the form of related technologies and project delivery.

"If we wish to effectively promote the Korean domestic offshore wind ecosystem, it's important that we make efforts that go beyond product development and seek to identify business opportunities that will make this all possible," said Yeonin Jung, President & COO of Doosan Enerbility. "By working together with KOMIPO, we aim to equip ourselves with competitive world-class technologies, with which we will do our best to establish a foundation for growth of our overseas exports."

KOMIPO has been engaged in the construction of the 100MW Jeju Hallim Offshore Wind Farm, a project being pursued together with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), KEPCO Engineering & Construction (KEPCO E&C), Doosan Enerbility and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) since 2021. Doosan Enerbility won the supplier agreement for the project, which entails manufacturing 18 units of 5.5MW offshore wind turbines that are to be installed at the wind farm, and this was followed by another subsequent win of the long-term service agreement.
