At the end of 2023, Ecopetrol increased the production of clean fuels by 17%, as a result of the historical record of consolidated cargo at the Barrancabermeja and Cartagena refineries, which reached 420 thousand barrels per day, an average per year.

The increase in the production of gasoline, diesel and jet contributed to reducing imports to meet local demand, which in turn generated surpluses of diesel, jet, petrochemicals and industrial products, which were destined for the export market.

The Company produced cleaner gasoline, with less than 46 parts per million (ppm) of sulfur and diesel with less than 12 ppm of average sulfur, thus complying with the fuel quality parameters established by the National Government, as a contribution for Colombians to breathe cleaner air.

The load of the Barrancabermeja refinery was the highest in the last 16 years, with an average of 240 thousand barrels per day in the last quarter of 2023, while the Cartagena refinery achieved a load of 198 thousand barrels per day average per year, due to the continuous operation of the Crude Oil Plants Interconnection Project (IPCC).

The factors that made it possible to obtain these results were: the operational availability of the process units, with 95.3%, the highest in the last five years; maximizing the loads of crude oil refining, catalytic cracking and alkylation units; taking advantage of the availability of light crude oil shipped from Cano Limon and ensuring the evacuation of vacuum funds.

This dynamism in operational matters contributed to the good economic performance of the refining and petrochemical segment, which at the end of 2023 recorded an EBITDA of $7.3 billion, the second highest in Ecopetrol's history.

In addition to these achievements, Ecopetrol was a pioneer in South America in advanced chemical recycling, with the processing of pyrolytic oil at the Barrancabermeja refinery, which the subsidiary Esenttia transformed into raw material for new circular plastic elements for the entire industry. In addition, Ecodiesel received Icontec carbon-neutral certification and the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) project is advancing at the Cartagena refinery.
